Rehearsal for AIDS Awareness play by young people at a youth shelter
Denise has always been involved in community upliftment projects. Even as a child she helped cheer the children, the elderly and mentally disabled where her mother worked.

As a ballerina in South Africa, she was involved in many outreach and underprivileged projects. She even had the honour of assisting Nelson Mandela in handing out the Presidential Education Awards in 1997. She knew some of the top members of the ANC. Women's League (like Ray Alexander) during the Apartheid struggle, and has met Presidents Mbeki, De Klerk and PW Botha.

Community projects in which Denise has been involved include:-

She was a celebrity guest with former Miss Universe Michelle McLean at Little Angels 'AIDS Babies' fundraising auction and dinner at the famous Mount Nelson Hotel in Cape Town.

She choreographed and staged many productions at Johannesburg Youth Theatre, some of which helped children to be aware of child abuse. Child abuse is a particular concern of hers, as she was abused for many years from age five to adulthood (if you need help with abuse, please see Links).
